Other options

Off Campus Student Accommodation

There are a number of Student Accommodation providers in Sydney. These buildings are especially set up for students to ensure you have a great student environment. You not only have the opportunity to meet many new friends at these locations but you will also find: Areas provided for both study and relaxing to ensure you have the best study life / social life balance. These properties generally have an “all-inclusive rate” including utilities (water, gas, electricity) and internet costs. Student Accommodation providers we recommend include are:

Share house and private rental

Many students rent accommodation off campus, often with other students. If you think that you want to rent accommodation in the private rental market, think about how what type of housing you want to live in, how many people you want to live with and how much you want to pay each week. When you know what you are looking for, you can start looking for places.

When you find somewhere you like, you will usually need to pay 2 weeks rent in advance and a bond (normally the amount of 4 weeks rent). You will get your bond back when your tenancy agreement or contract ends, assuming you do not owe your landlord money. You should make sure you get receipts for your rent and bond.

Tip: Remember on top of your weekly rent you will be required to pay for such things as water, electricity, gas and internet. It is not like a Student Accommodation residence where these things are included in your within your weekly rent rate.

A good place to start looking is:

It is important to understand your tenancy rights and responsibilities before you rent a room or a property. The Tenants’ Union NSW has a number of factsheets to help you. Information is available in many languages.
